Your contribution gives a student in West Africa an opportunity to attend school that they would not otherwise have – an opportunity to acquire the knowledge that may help them overcome the vicious cycle of poverty.
In Sierra Leone, needed student support at “regular” United Methodist Secondary Schools has been largely eliminated, as the Sierra Leonean Government is now providing the needed funding for “regular” secondary schools.
However, “private” schools such as the Taiama Enterprise Academy (the TEA) still need our support. While the Sierra Leonean Government recognizes that there is a desperate need for schools such as the TEA , they do not yet provide funding for this type of innovative education. Because the TEA is largely a boarding school the cost to provide a “Work/Study Grant” to a student attending the TEA is $850 for a full year.
Operation Classroom has been able to provide Work/Study Grants for the 100 students at the TEA for the 22/23 school year, but funds are needed for the upcoming 23/24 school year.
A contribution of $850.00 provides a Work/Study Grant at the TEA that:
In Liberia the situation is different – as NO secondary schools receive government support, including the some 15 UM Secondary Schools. $400 provides support for a student at UM Secondary Schools. In particular, teacher’s salaries need to be increased to compete with rising living costs.
A year of support includes:
A donation of ANY size may be made to support UMschools in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Funds not specifically designated will be applied where needed most.

With all of our schools you will have the opportunity to establish a relationship with your student (Note: To protect your privacy, all communication goes through the OCI office.) Most important of all, your student will come to understand that he or she is God’s beloved child, that he or she has value, and that God has a purpose for their life.
Note: Less than 15% of your contribution goes to pay for OCI Operating and Administrative costs.
